As part of the new garden, the council has asked for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which sets out what each party is responsible for. The group met on 20 July to talk through the proposed MOU from council, including council representative Stephen McLuckie.
Because this project is groundbreaking some parts of council are not as prepared as others, but the Mayor had indicated that community empowerment is critical part of the long term plan. The group agreed to provide feedback to council on the document.
There was some discussion on the formal opening day, which will likely be in October 2015. The group will have access to site from September onwards for planting before the official opening.
Site naming is working through the council process - will be dual name of Beach Haven Garden plus Maori translation (to be determined).
