If you met nurse Lisbeth Alley or former landscaper Robyn Laurenson on the street, the word guerrilla would probably not be the first description you would reach for. But the pair - with a core group of half a dozen keen types - took it upon themselves to do something when the Auckland Council demolished the rundown old post office in the middle of North Shore's Beach Haven shops.
"There were no plans for the site. The building had got very derelict, and when they pulled it down we were concerned about just leaving a vacant lot," says Robyn. "So we took the opportunity to do a spot of guerrilla gardening."
